Sukumar’s directorial Pushpa 2: The Rule became Indian cinema’s biggest hit, surpassing Baahubali 2: The Conclusion and KGF Chapter 2’s collection at the domestic box office.
The unequalled success of Pushpa 2: The Rule, starring Allu Arjun and Rashmika Mandanna may diminish as the film completes over a month at the box office. Sukumar’s directorial was released on December 5, 2024, ruling the theatres since day 1. By minting around Rs 1,726.25 crores globally, and a staggering collection of Rs 1,223 crore net domestically on Day 41, the movie has become the biggest hit in Indian cinema, displacing SS Rajamouli’s Bahubali: The Conclusion from the top and sending Prashanth Neel’s KGF: Chapter 1 to the third place.
With its current standing at Rs 791.65 crore net, Pushpa 2, the sequel to the 2017 released Pushpa: The Rise has also made history by becoming the first film from South India to cross the Rs 500 crore mark in Hindi, as per Saclink.
Pushpa 2 collected Rs 725.8 crore in its first week, Rs 264.8 crore in its second week, Rs 129.5 crore in its third week, and slowed down to Rs 69.65 crore in its fourth week. National Award winner, Allu Arjun’s newly launched film went on to amass Rs 3.75 crore on its fifth Friday, Rs 5.5 crore on its fifth Saturday, and Rs 7.2 crore on its fifth Sunday. Over time, the movie has seen a fall of around 65.28 percent and collected only Rs 2.5 crore on its fifth Monday.
What’s significant is that Allu Arjun, Rashmika Mandanna, and Fahad Faasil’s movie is trailing Aamir Khan’s Dangal by Rs 180 crore on Day 41. The 2016 release Dangal which grossed Rs 2,024 crore is India’s highest-grossing film worldwide. Nevertheless, with Pushpa 2 still running in theatres, it will be exciting to see if it can break Dangal’s record.
